when i was a child my mum used to take us - there are six of us, so no little thing! - to an occult/witch vibes shop in lower hutt called arcadia. the signage was shades of purple and the floor was covered in sparkling star confetti, and the shop always smelled like this candle.
i visited arcadia constantly during my childhood and into my teens when i went through my wicca phase and the owner annette recommended books for the witchcraft-interested teen finding their way in the craft. i often think that my interest in witch-shit was a real pre-cursor for exploring my queer identity - it was sparkling and magical and mysterious - which as of my last visit to arcadia was a few years off.
arcadia is super nostalgic for me, and while it smells like something specific to my own experience, i like to think it's a scent that conjures those positive personal and formative experiences where we found out who we are and will be. arcadia is a companion when the night is dark and long, and it envelopes us in the warmth of bracing memories and ghosts of years that have passed.
when arcadia was released for halloween 2020, i thought it was the candle of the spookiest season there ever was, who knew that its second halloween would be even spookier still!

sybs candles are made using pure soy wax, phthalate free fragrance oils and cosmetic-grade glass jars. the regular size uses a recycled wooden wick with booster strip, and the tiny is a cdn wick, which is cotton woven with paper.
